Tobias Hodel from the State Archives of Zurich recently visited the Cologne Centre for eHumanities to participate in their Digital Humanities Colloquium. The colloquium is a series of open lectures on current digital research topics that are documented in blog posts by students who attend.
Tobias Hodel delivered a workshop where he gave an update on the progress of the READ project and demonstrated how our Transkribus platform can be used to recognise handwritten historical documents. He explored the particular challenges of processing documents with complicated layouts and difficult handwriting. Sviatoslav Drach, a Masters student at the University of Cologne, produced a helpful summary of the presentation in a blog post.
