The German Giant I

Text Recognition★ Featured

Description

A combination of models containing German language Kurrent and Latin script, also some printed material and smaller amounts of other languages. Please avoid using this model as a basemodel when training custom models, or with the language model or SmartSearch option, as it will not work properly due to its size. This model works well for documents/collections with Kurrent/Sütterlin and Latin script mixed. For only Kurrent or only Latin script the dedicated models might work better, so please test and compare before use. Curated by the Transkribus team, this model is occasionally updated with community data for continuous improvement. Based on Transkribus German Handwriting M1.

Low error rate8.3% CER

Character Error Rate (CER) measures the percentage of characters incorrectly recognised. Lower is better. This model scored 8.3% on its validation set. As a rule of thumb, a CER below 10% is considered good for most handwritten material. This is a larger model trained on diverse material, which generally makes it more robust across different handwriting styles. That said, larger training sets also make it harder to push the CER down further.

Measured on the model's own validation data. Results on your documents may differ depending on handwriting style, document condition, language, and how closely your material resembles the training data.
