Andrew Macgeorge Travel Diary

Andrew Macgeorge (1810-1891)

A Scottish historian, author, and antiquarian, Andrew Macgeorge was born in Glasgow. The son of a solicitor, Macgeorge was educated in Glasgow and lived for a time at 6 Somerset Place, conveniently located halfway between the modern University of Glasgow campus and the city centre. We know that from 1849 he had a country house in Row (now Rhu) called Glenarn, which he landscaped with a focus on native plants. He had a well-loved cat named Hinsé, who is pictured in a manuscript held by the University of Glasgow.
