About this Project

Jack Connon Dunstan

Jack Connon Dustan (3 April 1916 - 11 January 2003) was a remarkable man. In 1953 at age 37 he took an approx. 2 year sabbatical from his job in Adelaide and travelled to England. In England he purchased a new 1953 Sunbeam S7 deluxe. Instead of shipping it back home to Adelaide from England, he started on a nearly 9 month trip to ride it from Glasgow through France, Spain, Austria, Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, India and concluding at Sri Lanka where he caught the ship SS Strathmore back to Adelaide with his bike at late December 1954.

Jack's diaries

Fortunately, Jack kept meticulous diaries of his travels which have survived. Given Jack had to pack everything on a motorcycle, he had little room for large diary books. He wrote in very small notebooks and wrote in extremely small cursive making it difficult to read. Through the use of AI, I'm attempting to transcribe and piece together his adventure.
