For Archives & Land Registries

Digitize cadastral records and land registries at scale

Land registries, cadastres, and property registers are among the most complex handwritten documents in any archive. Dense tabular layouts, centuries of changing scripts, and domain-specific abbreviations make manual transcription impractical. Transkribus reads the handwriting, detects the table structures, and extracts structured data — turning your cadastral holdings into searchable, exportable records.

Table recognition for cadastral registers

Transkribus detects rows, columns, and cell boundaries in handwritten land registers — then extracts each entry as structured data.

Success story

The Franciscan Cadastre — 640,000 pages digitized

The Franziszeischer Kataster is the first complete real estate cadastre of the Habsburg Monarchy, covering all of historic Tyrol. The University of Innsbruck and READ-COOP used Transkribus to process 640,000 pages of dense handwritten tabular records — combining table recognition, field extraction, and citizen science to make the entire collection searchable online.

Built for cadastral records

Purpose-built features for land registries, property records, and survey documents.

Columnar table recognition

Automatic detection of rows, columns, and cell boundaries in dense register pages. Handles multi-column layouts, merged cells, and marginalia.

Field models for parcel data

Extract repeating data fields — parcel number, owner name, area, land use, transaction date — into structured spreadsheet rows.

Batch processing thousands of pages

Process entire cadastral volumes in a single run. Upload hundreds of pages and let the AI work through them automatically.

CSV and Excel export

Download extracted data as CSV, Excel, PAGE XML, or ALTO. Ready for import into any database, GIS, or archive information system.

Integration with land information systems

Structured output feeds directly into archive information systems (AtoM, ACTApro, AUGIAS) and geographic information systems.

Custom model training

Train a dedicated AI model on your specific register type. A small training sample of 25–50 pages is usually enough for high accuracy.
