For the town of Bautzen, the municipal archives have a relatively complete record of the official administration from the 13th to the 19th century. In addition to the documents, the court books, the tax books and the council minutes are particularly noteworthy. The latter document every single meeting of the city council between 1623 and 1832. The archival indexing is - as is not unusual for official records - very shallow and is limited to the title "Ratsprotokoll" and the indication of the respective year. The search for a specific matter or an acting person (members of the council, applicants for citizenship, citizens who were decided on the matter) is therefore extremely time-consuming. With the present text recognition, the search is considerably simplified.
