+ Meet the READ project partners - Maria Kallio

What’s your name?

Maria Kallio

Where do you work?

The National Archives of Finland

Tell us a bit about your background…

I´m currently finishing my PhD in history. My research interests focus on medieval written culture, diplomatics and codicology. I love reading, eating good food and cheering on my favorite ice-hockey team.

What is your role in the READ project?

I’m responsible for our test and training collections and future crowd-sourcing projects. As a member of the Dissemination Working group, my job is to contact possible MoU-partners, organize workshops and spread the word about READ in Finland.

What is top of your to-do list at the moment?

Organising upcoming Transkribus workshops, where I teach researchers and archivists to use the platform.

What do you like best about working on READ?

The people, of course!

If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?

Librarian at the Bodleian library´s Special Collections! I would love to spend a day with their medieval manuscripts.

What can you see out of the window of your office?

Thanks Maria!
