+ Scanathon at the University Archive Greifswald

We are happy to report about the Scanathon, which took place at the University of Greifswald as part of their open house day on Saturday, 7th of March 2020. The event was also connected to the German Archives Day (by the Verband deutscher Archivarinnen und Archivare) and besides the Scanathon itself, mini-workshops had been organised, giving participants the opportunity to get an insight into Transkribus.

The goal of the Scanathon was to digitise archival material with the help of volunteers, digitising with the ScanTent and subsequently make the documents available for scientific research via the Internet. About a thousand pages of the homeland-supplements of different Pomeranian Newspapers of the nineteen-twenties had been scanned in the course of the event. In the next step the team of the University Archive Greifswald uploaded the scans to Transkribus, where an automatic transcription had been generated.

The great result is that today 44 years of homeland supplements of Pomeranian Newspapers are available and searchable online. You can have a look at them via the digital library here: https://digitale-bibliothek-mv.de/viewer/browse/-/1/-/DC:archive.100uaghgw.800zeitungen/
