Understanding Institutional use of HTR: Your experience with Transkribus

Help us to understand the institutional use of HTR: Joe Nockels is working on this project for his PHD (a Scottish Graduate School of Arts and Humanities (SGSAH) funded PhD). He aims to identify how to incorporate the use of Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) at scale, working in collaboration with the National Library of Scotland (NLS).

The recent uptake of Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) in libraries, archives, and other memory institutions has the potential to change access to the written past, at scale. What scale of work using Transkribus (one HTR software) is occurring at institutions? How are the products produced from this work being used? To what degree do institutions feel that the use of Transkribus can be extended? We invite you to take part in a survey that will help us document the changes the use of HTR is making to the information environment, while also thinking of how best to develop Transkribus in a way which meets the need of heritage institutions. The survey should take 10 minutes to complete, and we are particularly interested in responses from those working with Transkribus in institutional settings. The survey can be found here.
